Activate and Amplify: Write to Change the World

There’s a lot to get fired up about these days. In many parts of the world, young people are leading the way and creating big energy for change. If you’re a young person with a cause, how do you convince others to get involved? One big way is through writing. In this two-session workshop, middle and high schoolers will have a chance to explore activist writing with author Katie Bayerl.

We’ll focus on writing letters—a form that activists and citizens use every day to spread ideas and rally supporters. Katie will share tips for making a strong case that motivates readers to act. You’ll choose your own topic and draft a letter to a local (or school) newspaper, to a public official, or to your own circle of friends. (You can even decide to record your letter as a video!) During session 2, you’ll get feedback you can use to make the most powerful case possible for a cause close to your heart.

Attendance at both sessions required: Tuesdays 10/13 & 10/20 @ 3:30-5:00pm. Open to teens entering grades 6-12. This is an online event via Zoom. An invite will be sent at least an hour prior to the start of the program to the email given at registration. Be sure to check your spam box if the invite does not appear in your inbox.
