Donate to 2000 Libros!

This November, please consider donating new or gently used Spanish or bilingual books to the non-profit 2000 Libros.

What is 2000 Libros?

2000 Libros is a non-profit based in Washington DC that collects and distributes books to migrant children who are currently living in detention centers and are separated from their families. Started in 2018, this organization has already distributed close to 5000 donated books as of July 2019.

What can I donate?

You can donate new or gently used Spanish or bilingual books. They should be for children of any age (0-18). These can be board books, early readers, picture books, chapter books, or comics. Unfortunately, we will not accept textbooks of any kind.

Where can I donate?

You can drop donations off at Whitelam Books or here at the Reading Public Library in the Children's Room.

Where can I buy these books if I don't own any to give away?

You can buy books via the Amazon Wishlist that 2000 Libros provides. OR you can buy from the brick and mortar Whitelam Books. They will house a small collection of bilingual books that you can buy and then donate. You can also request and pay for a particular book to donate that Whitelam will then buy and donate. Support small business!

What if I do not live in Reading but I still want to donate?

You can send all donations to our library. Please use this address:

Reading Public Library
Children's Book Drive
64 Middlesex Ave.
Reading MA 01867

Do I have to donate a book or can I do something else?

You can always donate directly to the organization.

We will also have bookmarks to decorate in the Children's Room. If you want to include a drawn picture or a lovely note, we would be happy to include it.

How long will this book drive last?

We will be collecting donations from November 1-November 30. We will ship these books to 2000 Libros the first week of December.

Thank you for donating or considering to donate to 2000 Libros! We appreciate it.
