White Cane Day/Blind Americans Equality Day

Today is White Cane Day. White Cane Day recognizes the important symbol of blindness—the white cane. For the first time in 1964, LBJ issued a proclamation designating 15 October as “White Cane Safety Day.” In 2011, the day was also designated Blind Americans Equality Day by President Obama.
