Al-Hijri (Islamic New Year)
Today is the beginning of the Islamic New Year. The Islamic New Year, also called the Hijri New Year, is the day that marks the beginning of a new lunar Hijri year, and is the day on which the year count is incremented. The Islamic calendar or hijrī, is a lunar calendar. There are 12 months in the hijrī calendar, with each month being 29 or 30 days long. Conversely, much of the world today follows the Gregorian solar calendar, which has its origins in medieval Western Christianity.
