International Soccer Grannies Author Event, with Jean Duffy
Soccer isn’t just for toddlers and Premier League superstars: South African septuagenarians and well-seasoned Reading ladies play too! Join us for an evening of conversation with Reading residents Kathy Kelly and Robyn Parker as they welcome Jean Duffy, author of Soccer Grannies: The South African Women Who Inspire the World. Jean will discuss her book, which explores how a group of grandmothers in rural South Africa defied social convention by creating soccer teams for socialization and health benefits, ultimately wowing the world. All three women will talk about how they came to the sport later in life and their connection with South Africa’s legendary Soccer Grannies.
