Grandparents as Parents

Grandparents as Parents

Massachusetts estimates that over 10,400 children in the Commonwealth living without their biological parent present are being raised by their grandparents.  On July 8, 2008, the Child Advocate bill was signed into law which included the establishment of the Commission on the Status  of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (Section 1 of Chapter 176, the Acts of 2008 M.G.L. Chapter 3, section 69). The purpose of this Commission is to be a resource to the Commonwealth on issues affecting grandparents raising grandchildren, and relatives, other than parents, raising kin.

Please come join Colleen Pritoni, the first Coordinator for The Commission on the Status of Grandparents Raising Grandchildren for an  informational session on the services offered by the Commission. Colleen has been in the field of social work for over twenty years including 15 years as a social worker for The Department of Children and Families.
